چکیده

The precipitation of struvite from wastewater is a potential alternative for the recovery nutrients, especially phosphorus, which an essential macronutrient agriculture but can be harmful to environment when improperly disposed in water bodies. In addition, has elements great added value agricultural activity (P, N, and Mg) is, therefore, considered sustainable fertilizer. its formation process, several intervening physicochemical factors may responsible production yield levels. Optimization processes help define direct that truly matter precipitation. this context, sequential design experiments (DOE) methodology was applied select optimize main wastewater. Initially, screening performed with eight aid Plackett–Burman design, real influence on process were identified. Then, Doehlert used optimization by applying response surface desirability function. results identify optimal points pH (10.2), N/P ratio (≥4), initial phosphorus concentration (183.5 mg/L); these values had greater effect struvite, confirmed through thermochemical analysis decomposition structure differential scanning calorimeter—glass transition temperature (DSC-TG) phase identification X-ray diffraction (XRD). determination best synthesis conditions enormous contribution control because lead better yields higher levels recovery.

Phosphorus Recovery from Animal Manures using Optimized Struvite Precipitation

The over-application of phosphorus, as manure by animal feeding operations, is a threat to surface water quality. Concentration of animal feeding operations and over application of manures to cropland has lead to a build-up of phosphorus on many farms (Greaves et al., 1999). Relative to crop needs, manure slurries contain higher levels of phosphorus than nitrogen. When manure is applied to meet...

Phosphorus Recovery from Wastewater by Struvite Crystallisation: a Review

The present review provides an understanding of principles of struvite crystallisation and examines the techniques and processes experimented to date by researchers at laboratory, pilot and full scale to maximise phosphorus removal and reuse as struvite from wastewater effluents. Struvite is mainly known as a scale deposit causing concerns to wastewater companies. Indeed struvite naturally occu...

Modeling and Optimization of Phosphate Recovery from Industrial Wastewater and Precipitation of Solid Fertilizer using Experimental Design Methodology

Phosphorus (P) is one of the primary nutrients generating eutrophication in aquatic systems1. To prevent eutrophication, municipal or agricultural wastewaters are treated to reduce the phosphorus concentrations in the wastewater reaching surface water streams. While unregulated P is a pollutant in a water body, phosphorous is a useful resource in agricultural fertilizers, food supply, and indus...

Removal and recovery of phosphorus as struvite from swine wastewater using microbial fuel cell.

Air-cathode single chamber microbial fuel cells (MFCs) were operated with swine wastewater. The maximum power density, the maximum current density, the average value of COD-removal efficiency, and the coulombic efficiency were 1-2.3 W/m(2), 6.0-7.0 A/m(2), 76-91%, and 37-47%, respectively. During operation, 70-82% of the phosphorus was removed from the influent, and some precipitations were obs...

Releasing phosphorus from calcium for struvite fertilizer production from anaerobically digested dairy effluent.

Being a non-renewable resource and a source of potential water pollution, phosphorus could be recovered from animal manure in the form of struvite (MgNH4PO4.6H2O) to be used as a slow-release fertilizer. It was found recently that the majority of phosphorus in anaerobically digested dairy effluent is tied up in a fine suspended calcium-phosphate solid, thus becoming unavailable for struvite for...
